Amended Goa Solar Policy to be notified soon

The joint electricity regulatory commission has reportedly asked the Goa electricity department to provide consumers with necessary assistance who is interested in generating solar power.

The instruction to the state electricity department was issued only after consumers and solar installers complained to the commission at the hearings that the government is dragging its feet over promoting solar power highlighting problems on the ground reports ET.

The joint electricity regulatory commission (JERC) also asked the power department to be ‘proactive’ and assist consumers. According to the report JERC also said that the department should, in fact, encourage consumers to switch over to renewable energy sources.

Sanjeev Joglekar, the member secretary of Goa energy development agency informed the commission that the solar policy 2017 is being amended and it will be notified within the next 10 to 15 days.

Executive engineer (IPM) B Nigale stated that the power purchase agreement is ready and has been vetted by the law department, stated the report.

Once the power agreement is out, it will have “retrospective effect”, Nigale assured prosumers that they would receive all the benefits of solar power produced by them and supplied to the grid

The commission told the Goa electricity department to keep the stakeholders informed on PPA so that they can avail the benefit.

Chairperson of the commission, M K Goel stated that solar regulations of JERC were already existing and valid till May 2018.
