The Bangalore Electrical Supply Company (Bescom) has floated tender to add 22 electric vehicles to its fleet for the department on monthly basis. Bescom floated tender in a bid promote green mobility in the city.
With the addition of 22 electric vehicles the total number of e-vehicles used by the department will stand to 27.
Bescom is planning to add new electric vehicles to the existing fleet of five e-vehicles by first week of April.
CK Sreenath, deputy general manager (smart grid and electric vehicle) Bescom speaking to TOI said “Currently, we have five hired electric vehicles, which are being used for various purposes by the department, for the past one year. There is in fact a direction from the government that 50% of all government-hired vehicles should be converted to electric vehicles by the first quarter of 2019. We have hence floated tender for 22 vehicles for our corporate office on monthly rental basis.” He further added “currently there are 13,000 registered electric vehicles across the state. In the city we have close to 7000 registered electric vehicles.”
