Leading PV Provider Sets Ambitious Net-Zero Targets, Aims to Make Solar Energy Accessible for All
Trina Solar, a renowned global provider of photovoltaic (PV) and smart energy solutions, marked the 50th anniversary of World Environment Day on June 5 with its steadfast dedication to sustainability. The company in a statement said -Inspired by the Kyoto Protocol since its inception, Trina Solar has been at the forefront of promoting renewable energy for the past 25 years, making solar power accessible to all.
In alignment with the climate objectives outlined in the Paris Agreement, Trina Solar aims to achieve 100% renewable energy usage in its global manufacturing and operations by 2030.
The company has taken significant strides towards this goal by implementing various net-zero practices, including net-zero operations, a net-zero value chain, and net-zero products.
To uphold its commitment to environmental responsibility, Trina Solar has implemented a comprehensive range of carbon neutrality measures. These measures encompass improving energy efficiency, establishing net-zero industrial parks and factories, adopting waste reduction and recycling strategies (3Rs), utilizing renewable energy sources, digitally managing energy and carbon emissions, and developing cutting-edge carbon reduction technologies.
The company has implemented a robust ISO14001 environmental management system across all its global plants, ensuring the preservation of local ecosystems and biodiversity right from the selection of manufacturing facility sites.
Through a suite of environmental management systems and processes, Trina Solar effectively minimizes the environmental impact of its products, activities, and services.
In a remarkable achievement, Trina Solar’s Yiwu plant became the first in the PV industry to be officially certified as a Zero Carbon Factory in April 2023.
This certification not only reflects the company’s carbon reduction practices in technology, products, equipment, and process management over the past 25 years but also underscores Trina Solar’s unwavering dedication to sustainable development.
Trina Solar’s commitment to green operations extends to the sustainable use of natural resources, responsible emissions and recycling of waste gas, wastewater, and solid waste, and substantial reductions in electricity consumption, water usage, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
In 2022, Trina Solar achieved a 50.81% and 61.88% reduction in GHG emissions per unit of production for cell and module products, respectively, surpassing its carbon emission reduction targets ahead of schedule.
Recognizing the significance of collaboration, Trina Solar actively conveys its vision and goals to global partners. By integrating sustainability into procurement and research processes, the company strives to foster a net-zero value chain and establish a green ecosystem with its associates worldwide. In collaboration with partners, Trina Solar has successfully reduced the carbon footprint of its modules and developed low-carbon silicon materials.
The company said that it’s150 micron and 130 micron wafers boast a 20% lower carbon footprint compared to conventional wafers, thanks to technical advancements in wafer thickness reduction. In February 2023, Trina Solar was honored as a “National Green Supply Chain Management Enterprise” by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for its exceptional performance in the field of green supply chain management.
With a strong focus on green technology, Trina Solar believes that the path to carbon neutrality lies in innovative solutions. The company is actively creating a green, net-zero energy future alongside its customers, leveraging superior technology platforms and developing innovative, ultra-high power products.
2022, Trina Solar’s Vertex modules received a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Certificate from TÜV Rheinland, acknowledging their low-carbon management capabilities throughout their entire life cycle. Subsequently, the company’s Vertex modules were granted a Carbon Footprint Certificate by TÜV Rheinland for their industry-leading performance in reducing carbon footprints.
Trina Solar is also a pioneering force in initiating Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and carbon footprint certification procedures for n-type modules within the industry.
Trina Solar further in a statement said that ,from net-zero operations to a net-zero value chain and net-zero products, it remains steadfast in its mission to reduce carbon emissions for the betterment of society. Going forward, the company will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to safeguard the biosphere, support global decarbonization initiatives, and make solar energy accessible to people around the world.
