The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is reportedly gearing up to complete Rs 1,000 crore solar project. The green energy will be used to power 1.30 lakh street lights, buildings and some parts of water and sewage treatment plants.
With the completion of this solar project NMC will have zero financial burden, instead it will save over Rs500 crore. According to TOI, NMC will become the country’s first to do so if the project materializes.
NMC has shortlisted Chennai-based Broil Solar Energy, Raipur-based Shanti GD Ispat and Power, and city-based Rohit Steel for the project.
The decision on issuing work orders to the companies will be taken by standing committee in a meeting on February 21.
Solar infrastructure worth over Rs 300 crore will be developed by the companies at their own cost within eight months. Operate and maintenance of the systems will be undertaken by the companies for period of 20 years. NMC will pay Rs945.34 crore to the companies over 20 years.
Shanti GD Ispat and Power will be given Laxmi Nagar, Hanuman Nagar, Nehru Nagar and Gandhibagh zones, while Rohit Steel will get Dharampeth, Dhantoli and Lakadganj zones, and Broil Solar will operate the equipment at Satranjipura, Ashi Nagar and Mangalwari zones.
