The Chandigarh Renewal Energy, Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) has reportedly submitted plans to Chandigarh administration for installing solar plants in the city to achieve target of 69 MW set by the MNRE by the year 2022.
CREST’s plan shows that solar power plants will be installed on the rooftop of all community centres , government buildings, water works office in Sector 39, New Lake in Sector 42, seasonal rivulet passing through city, and open spaces in the city, reports ET.
Chandigarh administration has already approved detailed project report (DPR) of installation of 800kW solar power plants worth Rs 4.5 crore at the parking area of the New Lake at Sector 42. Out of 800kW, 90kW solar energy would be reserved for charging e-vehicles says the report.
The detailed project report was approved by the principal secretary of science and technology and renewable energy department Arun Kumar.
It is said to be the first of its kind charging station for electricity vehicles in Chandigarh.
The report further states that the CREST is also planning to install a 3MW solar plant on the N-choe at Sector 53.
