Maruti Suzuki has reportedly trademarked the name “Futuro-E” for its upcoming electric car.
The all news electric car from the house of Maruti Suzuki is expected to be introduced at the Auto Expo 2020.
The new EV is speculated to be based on the WagonR hatchback.
The automaker may launch this car with a range of around 150-200 km, ample for commuting in and around the city.
The electric hatchback is likely to come with a fast-charging technology as well.
With the launch of the new EV, Maruti aims to grab a sizeable chunk in the zero-emission PV space as well.
Maruti Suzuki Futuro-E electric hatchback is expected to be priced between Rs 7-10 lakh (ex-showroom).
When launched this car will compete against the likes of Tata Tigor EV and other models from the rivals like Mahindra, Hyundai etc.
Tata Tigor EV is available at a price range of Rs 9.44-9.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Futuro-E is expected to be based on the international market-spec WagonR. In that case, the design would be similar to the standard hatchback. However, there would be some distinctive design elements to make the EV different looking than the regular model.
Instead of a conventional front grille the car will have a covered look. It will be flanked by projector headlamps and LED daytime running lights. Also, it would get LED taillights as well.
The car would sport alloy wheels.
This electric hatchback is also expected to come with features like a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The electric vehicle is likely to come with the option to be charged using a regular 15A socket and a DC fast charger as well.
As of now there is no details of the powertrain.
