Around 12,000 LED street lights in Visakhapatnam will be replaced with solar street lights next year.
EESL is working a project report for provision of solar street lights.
The solar street lights will be installed under the replacement drive of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), existing LED street lights have to be removed for underground power supply, a World Bank funded project owned by AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (EPDCL).
P Siva Prasad Raju, GVMC superintending engineer (electrical wing) speaking to TOI said, “EESL will submit the report on solar power street lights by replacing nearly 9000 street lights falling under the underground power supply network. We expect the report by end of this month. We will submit the report to our government for its final nod.”
He said that each solar-powered pole will cost around Rs 70,000.
