The Rajasthan government is promoting the use of solar pumps in farming by offering subsidies of up to 60% to farmers. This initiative aims to reduce farmers’ dependence on electricity for irrigation.
According to a senior official from the agriculture department, farm production has increased as a result of this initiative.
The state government has also provided an additional subsidy of Rs 45,000 to farmers who belong to Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes (STs) and a 100% subsidy on solar pump plants of 3 and 5 horsepower to ST farmers under the tribal sub-plan areas.
In the last four years, more than Rs 982.95 crore in subsidies have been given to over 57,000 farmers.
