Dubai’s “The Loop” Project to use 100 % renewable energy

Dubai-based developer URB is set to create a groundbreaking closed-loop structure called “The Loop” that will connect over 3 million residents to key amenities and services within just 20 minutes by walking or cycling. The project is in line with Dubai’s new 20-minute city initiative, which aims to encourage the use of healthier forms of transportation. URB plans to provide an all-year, climate-controlled environment that will make walking and cycling the primary mode of transport for locals.

URB has released images of the proposed project and a map that shows how it will connect major areas of Dubai. The developer is currently in the concept design stage and is looking to develop the project further to find the best optimum solution for route and phasing in line with commercial feasibility, according to CEO Baharash Bagherian.

The Loop project in Dubai aims to provide the world’s smartest cycling and walking infrastructure and reduce dependency on cars. URB hopes that the project will promote a higher quality of life for residents by providing several entry and exit points to improve connectivity. Additionally, the project will use 100 percent renewable energy, utilizing kinetic power.

The project was announced earlier this month, and URB plans to complete it by 2040.
