Global Financial Institutions call on 15,000 companies for environmental disclosure through CDP’s 2023 questionnaire.
Major financial institutions representing over US$136 trillion in assets are urging more than 15,000 companies worldwide to disclose data on their environmental impact.
The request, which is being made through a Letter to the Boards of these companies, is being coordinated by global non-profit CDP, which runs the world’s environmental disclosure system.
The letter calls for companies to disclose data on climate change, deforestation, water security, biodiversity, and plastic through CDP’s 2023 questionnaire.
CDP’s 2023 disclosure request has seen a nearly 10% increase in the number of financial institutions requesting disclosure.
The increase reflects a recognition that climate change and the irreversible loss of nature and habitats pose challenges to businesses and investment activities.
Despite incoming regulation and growing disclosure, companies including Berkshire Hathaway, Exxon Mobil, Saudi Aramco, and Tesla still do not disclose their environmental data.
