BALCO achieves the highest number of ESCerts in the Aluminium Sector for PAT Cycle-II
BALCO, a subsidiary of Vedanta Aluminium and one of India’s leading aluminium producers, has been recognized as a ‘PAT Top Performer’ for its contribution to energy conservation by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Perform, Achieve, and Trade (PAT) Scheme.
BALCO has been designated as a Top Performer Consumer for the Aluminium Sector for PAT Cycle-II, having achieved the highest number of Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts) under the National Mission for Enhanced Energy Efficiency (NMEEE). The award was presented by the Hon’ble Minister of Power, New & Renewable Energy, Shri R K Singh, on the 21st Foundation Day of BEE.
BALCO’s CEO & Director, Mr. Rajesh Kumar, expressed his pride in the company’s achievement, highlighting BALCO’s commitment to sustainable business practices and the inclusion of renewable energy in its energy mix. He also emphasized BALCO’s investment in clean technologies and modifications to its production processes to reduce energy consumption and increase energy efficiency.
BALCO’s innovations and modifications, including the introduction of 100% graphitized cathodes and pot controller upgrades, have resulted in a significant reduction in specific power consumption during PAT Cycle II. BALCO has successfully increased savings in specific energy consumption from 2% to 36%, establishing itself as one of India’s most energy-efficient companies and an industry benchmark for energy efficiency.
