Energy storage facility to meet renewable RTC/peak power requirements
NTPC Renewable Energy, which is a fully-owned subsidiary of NTPC, has announced an invitation for bids for energy storage projects that are connected to an interstate transmission system (ISTS). The project is expected to have a capacity of 9,000 MWh with a minimum of 1,500 MW capacity that can be installed in any location in India. The deadline for submitting bids is June 16, 2023, and the bids will be opened on the same day.
The primary goal of NTPC Renewable Energy is to use the energy storage facility to fulfill its renewable RTC/peak power requirements, which will supplement its wind and solar generation. The bidders are required to pay INR1.2 million /MW of the quoted capacity as an earnest money deposit.
The selected bidders will enter into an energy storage service agreement with NTPC Renewable Energy on an annual fixed charge basis for 25 years. The developer will have to build, own, and operate the project, and the minimum capacity of the project must be 100 MW, with a minimum storage capacity of 600 MWh.
NTPC Renewable Energy will utilize the energy storage facility as and when required to meet its round-the-clock and peak power requirements, with the power generated by any of its renewable projects being used for charging the energy storage project.
Projects that are under construction or not yet commissioned will be eligible for consideration if they are not accepted under any other central or state programs. The program will not consider projects that are already commissioned or those that require enhancement and augmentation.
Bidders from countries that share a land border with India will only be eligible to bid if they are registered with the competent authority. However, this registration requirement will not apply to bidders from countries to which the Government of India has extended lines of credit or is engaged in development projects.
