DRI Inaugurates Sustainable Agriculture Resource Center in Rajasthan, Promoting Organic Farming and Soil Health

Pahwa Group’s Flagship Company Partners with Sapna NGO to Benefit Local Farmers on World Environment Day

DRI, the flagship company of Pahwa Group, a renowned adsorption technology group, has inaugurated the DRI Sustainable Agriculture Resource Center in Dadhikar village, Alwar, Rajasthan. The center, established in partnership with the Sapna NGO, aims to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices while enhancing soil health and fertility through natural methods. The inauguration took place on the occasion of World Environment Day, 5th June 2023.

The ceremony was led by Mrs. Anandita Pahwa, Head of CSR Initiatives at Pahwa Group, along with esteemed guests including Mr. Jagdish Prasad Sharma, Assistant Agriculture Officer, Alwar; Mr. Sudhir Pratap Singh, General Secretary of Sapna NGO, and Prof. Ranvir Singh, Secretary of Sapna NGO. The event witnessed the presence of many farmers from Dadhikar village who will benefit from the center’s initiatives.

The primary objective of the DRI Sustainable Agriculture Resource Center is to provide support to farmers in the region, facilitating their transition to organic farming methods. This project aims to benefit over 150 farmers, ensuring increased access to organic, chemical-free, and healthy food for the local community. The center will also offer training and assistance to farmers and villagers, equipping them with the knowledge and resources necessary for sustainable agriculture.

Initially, the center will produce and distribute four types of organic fertilizers, namely Neemastra, Jivamrit, Vermi Compost, and Rapid Compost, to the villagers. These organic fertilizers will enhance crop productivity and contribute to the long-term objective of eliminating the use of synthetic inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, genetically modified seeds, preservatives, additives, and irradiation. Instead, the center will emphasize site-specific management practices to maintain and increase soil fertility while preventing pests and diseases.

Mrs. Anandita Pahwa, reflecting on past initiatives, mentioned the construction of a Check Dam earlier this year in Dadhikar village, Alwar, to address water scarcity. The check dams have resulted in increased underground water levels, providing respite to farmers and encouraging them to resume farming activities. With the inauguration of the DRI Sustainable Agriculture Resource Center, the Pahwa Group intends to further support farmers in their transition away from synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, promoting the use of organic farming products.

The center will also serve as a hub for farmer training and capacity building. Workshops and training sessions on organic farming techniques will be conducted, covering topics such as soil management, composting, natural pest control, and crop rotation. Additionally, the center will demonstrate various organic techniques suitable for the local conditions.

In conjunction with the center’s inauguration, DRI and Bry-Air, another flagship company under the Pahwa Group, organized volunteer activities involving children from Bry-Air and DRI Pathshalas in Dharam Colony and Carterpuri village, Gurugram. These activities included a drawing competition on the theme of ‘beating plastic pollution,’ as well as decorating flowerpots and planting seeds. The aim of these activities was to raise awareness among students and instill a sense of responsibility towards Earth’s natural ecosystem, encouraging them to take steps to protect the environment as future generations.

The Pahwa Group has been actively involved in environmental protection and conservation efforts for many years. Through initiatives such as the construction of check dams for rainwater harvesting, plantation drives, and afforestation, the group aims to increase green cover and improve air quality, contributing to the restoration of the ecosystem. In Dadhikar village, Alwar, Rajasthan, their afforestation efforts have led to the development of a forest comprising over 750 medicinal and fruit-bearing trees, which will contribute to re-greening the area and provide fruits for the local community.
