Five Corporates Join Forces to Address Plastic Pollution and Promote Environmental Conservation
SOS Children’s Villages India, one of the largest self-implementing child-care NGO, organized a remarkable Tree Plantation Drive at its Family Strengthening Programme (FSP) in Faridabad on the occasion of World Environment Day.
The event brought together 48 officials from five leading corporates, united in their commitment to combat plastic pollution and preserve the environment.
Prominent companies such as BorgWarner, Konica Minolta, Siegwerk, Tata Steel, and Air India lent their support to this important initiative.
Corporate officials, along with 50 members of the Family Strengthening Programme, including children, collaborated to plant saplings within the premises of the FSP. This act of environmental stewardship was accompanied by an educational workshop on the innovative concept of Eco Bricks.
The workshop showcased the Bal Panchayat’s groundbreaking technique within the FSP program, where plastic bottles filled with dry used plastic are transformed into Eco Bricks. These bricks are carefully crafted to a specific density, ensuring their reusability and significantly reducing the chances of degradation into toxins and microplastics.
Moreover, the participating corporate employees contributed to the cause by bringing empty plastic bottles and other solid waste materials. Using the Eco Brick technique, they created benches and tables, setting an enduring example of the principles of reuse, reduce, and recycle for the community.
“The event highlights the commitment of SOS Children’s Villages India and the participating corporates in promoting environmental sustainability,” said Mr. Sumanta Kar, Secretary General of SOS Children’s Villages India. “By fostering awareness and taking tangible actions, they have contributed to a greener and healthier future for all.”
Mr. Kar expressed his gratitude to the corporate officials for their active involvement in the Family Strengthening Programme at Faridabad. He expressed confidence that their collective efforts would continue to make a positive difference in preserving the environment and inspire others to take action for a better tomorrow.
The event served as a platform to raise awareness, especially among children, about the vital importance of environmental preservation. By highlighting the connection between a thriving environment and a sustainable future, participants emphasized the need to protect ecosystems and biodiversity. They underscored the significance of tree plantation as an effective measure to address pressing environmental issues while empowering communities.
Discussions and activities during the event emphasized the importance of recycling and waste reduction as essential practices in minimizing environmental impact. The event sought to educate individuals and instill a sense of responsibility towards the environment, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable world.
The SOS Children’s Villages India Family Strengthening Programme plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable families facing poverty, social discrimination, and various challenges. By providing assistance to 171 families in Faridabad, the program aims to prevent child abandonment and ensure the overall well-being and development of children.
