Maharashtra’s MSEDCL Awards Two Key Contracts to Adani Group in Smart Metering Push
In a significant development, the Adani Group has clinched two major contracts valued at Rs 13,888 crore from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) for the installation of smart meters. This achievement follows the awarding of a total of six tenders by MSEDCL for the implementation of smart metering solutions, with Adani Group emerging as a prominent player in the sector.
According to an official communication from MSEDCL, Adani Group, a diversified conglomerate with a strong presence in the power sector, will serve as an advanced metering infrastructure service provider for smart prepaid metering within the MSEDCL network. The contracts encompass two zones: Bhandup, Kalyan, and Konkan, with 63.44 lakh meters, and Baramati and Pune, with 52.45 lakh meters.
These contracts have been formalized with the issuance of Letters of Awards to the successful firms, although Adani Group representatives were not immediately available for comment.
Adani Group’s transmission arm, Adani Energy Solutions (formerly Adani Transmission), has been actively involved in the smart meter segment. With these latest wins, the group is poised to become the largest smart meter supplier in the country, commanding a substantial 30 percent share of the market. It’s worth noting that Adani Group had previously secured contracts for smart meter installations in multiple states.
Apart from Adani Group, other entities have also secured orders in this venture. NCC has secured contracts for two zones: Nashik and Jalgaon, with 28.86 lakh meters valued at Rs 3,461 crore, and Latur, Nanded, and Aurangabad, with 27.77 lakh meters valued at Rs 3,330 crore. Additionally, Montecarlo and Genus have each won one contract, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of smart metering infrastructure in Maharashtra.
