Company Showcases India’s First Grid-Connected Electric Excavator and Innovative Sustainability Solutions
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) India made a significant stride in sustainability at Excon 2023, showcasing the largest array of electric machines in India. This included the commercial launch of EC500 Electric, the country’s first 50-ton class grid-connected electric excavator, signaling a shift toward zero-emission mining and construction machinery. The L120 Electric Wheel Loader, offering silent operations and no tailpipe emissions, provided a glimpse into the future of material handling. The EC80 Electric, a near-production prototype, and compact electric machines for urban construction and forestry were also unveiled.
Volvo CE displayed India-developed electric compactors, DD40 and PT220, emphasizing advanced technology and adherence to emission regulations. These products underscore Volvo CE’s commitment to sustainable local solutions for the Indian market in line with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat focus.
Dimitrov Krishnan, Managing Director of Volvo CE India, highlighted the company’s dedication to shaping the future of construction. He emphasized Volvo CE’s role in the projected 10-15% CAGR of the Indian earthmoving equipment market over the next five years, driven by the demand for clean technologies. Krishnan expressed Volvo CE’s mission to drive positive change through innovative electric solutions and comprehensive sustainability support.
Apart from electric innovation, Volvo CE showcased the EC210D, a 20-ton excavator, and emphasized its commitment to supporting customer success with new-age service solutions. These include Equipment as a Service (EaaS), productivity, and uptime services. EaaS bundles state-of-the-art equipment with efficiency measures, making the transition to electric machines more accessible. Volvo CE’s comprehensive set of productivity services includes operator simulators, smart assist solutions, and real-time tech support, ensuring maximum uptime for customers.
