Tech Meets Green: IIT Kanpur & Lucknow Cantonment Board Forge Waste-Free Campus Path

Cutting Carbon, Boosting Sustainability: IIT Kanpur Expertise Drives Eco-Campus Project

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and the Lucknow Cantonment Board have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to achieve a significant goal: creating a waste-free and carbon-neutral campus. This initiative aligns with India’s vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and sets a powerful example for other institutions to follow.

A Collaborative Effort for a Sustainable Future

The MOU outlines a collaborative effort where IIT Kanpur will act as the knowledge partner, providing expertise and support in research projects, seminars, and educational initiatives. This includes:

  • Implementing eco-friendly practices to reduce waste and conserve resources.
  • Cutting carbon emissions through energy efficiency measures and exploring renewable energy options.
  • Developing strategies to offset and further reduce the campus’s carbon footprint.

Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean of Research and Development, IIT Kanpur said “This collaboration supports global efforts to fight climate change and demonstrates our commitment to building a sustainable future.”

“Collaborating with IIT Kanpur will pave the way for transformative initiatives and position Lucknow Cantonment Board as a leader in adopting innovative solutions for sustainability, ” added Col. Mayank Sundriyal, Commander Works Engineer (CWE), Lucknow

IIT Kanpur and Lucknow Cantonment Board aim to become a model for other institutions, showcasing the feasibility and benefits of achieving waste-free and carbon-neutral campuses. Their success will inspire and guide others to follow suit, contributing significantly to India’s overall sustainability goals.
