Mumbai School Students Receive Eco-Friendly Desks

Recycled Tetra Pak cartons transformed into classroom furniture

Students at Rajarshi Shahu Nagar Municipal School in Mahim east were thrilled to find brand new, eco-friendly desks in their classrooms today. The desks, made from recycled Tetra Pak cartons, were donated as part of the Go Green with Tetra Pak program.

The program, launched in 2010, aims to collect and recycle used Tetra Pak cartons to create furniture for schools in need. This donation is part of a larger initiative that has provided over 800 desks and 100,000 other recycled items to communities across India.

Cassio Simoes, Managing Director of Tetra Pak South Asia, emphasized the importance of sustainability and education. “Every classroom we create is a step towards a future where education and sustainability go hand in hand,” he said.

Editorial thought : While the desks are a valuable addition to the school, we are concern about the safety of kids, especially for young children who may have a habit of licking or biting furniture. Tetra Pak has not yet released any information about the safety testing or certifications for these recycled desks.
