Hyundai Creta Electric: five things that you should know about the new EV

ClimateSamurai.com was among the first to break the news of Hyundai’s plans to venture into the electric vehicle market with the Creta Electric. Months before its official unveiling, the platform reported sightings of the electric SUV being tested on Gurgaon roads, setting the stage for anticipation around the company’s latest innovation. Now, with the Hyundai Creta Electric officially launched, it stands poised to redefine the compact SUV segment in India with its blend of affordability, advanced features, and eco-friendly performance.

Here are five key points about the Hyundai Creta Electric:

  1. Affordable Electric SUV: The Hyundai Creta Electric is positioned as Hyundai’s most affordable all-electric compact SUV in India, directly competing with models like the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV.
  2. Design Highlights: The Creta Electric shares its design language with the regular Creta but introduces unique EV-specific features such as a pixelated grille pattern, a central charging flap with the Hyundai logo, and an updated bumper for improved aerodynamics.
  3. Interior Features: The electric model maintains the dual-tone black and white cabin of the standard Creta but includes updates like a new 3-spoke steering wheel and a redesigned lower center console. It also offers advanced features like a dual-screen dashboard, panoramic sunroof, and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) charging capability.
  4. Battery and Range Options: It comes with two battery pack choices—52 kWh (medium range) with an ARAI-claimed range of 90 km and 72 kWh (long range) offering 73 km. Charging options include a DC fast charger (10-80% in 58 minutes) and an 11 kW AC charger (full charge in 4 hours).
  5. Pricing and Competition: Expected to start at ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom), the Creta Electric will face competition in India’s growing EV market from other upcoming models, such as the Maruti e-Vitara.
