The collaboration focuses on expanding rooftop solar adoption, energy storage, and advanced grid solutions to enhance Delhi’s power resilience and sustainability
The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) to accelerate the transformation of Delhi’s power distribution sector. This strategic collaboration focuses on advancing grid-connected solar rooftop PV systems, energy storage solutions, electric vehicle (EV) integration, and smart distribution technologies.
Enhancing Grid Resilience with Distributed Energy Resources
The MoUs, signed by Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI, and senior officials from BRPL and BYPL, aim to address key technical challenges associated with integrating a higher share of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) into the power grid. As part of this initiative, BSES will provide utility-level data to support TERI’s research on grid resilience, energy efficiency, and demand management strategies.
The partnership will also facilitate capacity-building programs targeting key stakeholders, including project developers, financial institutions, government agencies, and distribution utilities. By strengthening the knowledge base of industry professionals, this initiative will play a vital role in accelerating the adoption of sustainable energy solutions.
Driving Delhi’s Energy Transition with Innovation
Highlighting the urgency of sustainable energy transition, Dr. Vibha Dhawan remarked, “Delhi’s electricity demand is rising, and we must adopt transformative solutions such as energy storage and advanced demand management to ensure grid stability.” She cited successful programs like ‘Energy Wise, Energy Rise’ with BRPL, emphasizing that the newly signed MoUs will help address crucial challenges like voltage regulation and grid protection.
BSES officials echoed this vision, stressing the need to equip young professionals with the skills to navigate the evolving energy landscape. The discussions also emphasized the importance of rooftop solar adoption, particularly through government collaborations for the Suryoday Yojana’s successful implementation.
Key Areas of Collaboration
The MoUs pave the way for deeper engagement in:
Electricity Demand Management: Enhancing DISCOM operations and energy storage capabilities.
Policy Advocacy & Research: Leveraging TERI’s expertise in shaping energy policies and consumer awareness campaigns.
Women’s Empowerment in the Power Sector: Expanding capacity-building programs to include greater female participation.
Renewable Energy Grid Integration: Developing demand response frameworks, ESG strategies, and differential tariff models.
This landmark agreement reinforces TERI and BSES’s shared commitment to strengthening India’s power distribution ecosystem. By fostering research-driven innovation, policy development, and capacity building, this partnership marks a significant step toward a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy future for Delhi and beyond.
