Bondada Group Secures 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage Project to Power Tamil Nadu’s Clean Energy Future

Bondada Group, infrastructure and engineering firms, has clinched a landmark 400 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project from Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL).

This significant development represents a major stride toward enhancing Tamil Nadu’s grid resilience and accelerating its clean energy transition.

The grid-scale standalone BESS facilities will be installed at Vellalaviduthi and Thennampatty in Tamil Nadu.

Designed to stabilize the grid, support renewable energy integration, and manage peak demand, the project will play a crucial role in ensuring 24×7 reliable power supply.

Awarded under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, Bondada Group emerged as the successful bidder through TNGECL’s competitive tendering process.

Under the agreement, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) will procure energy storage services from Bondada for a period of 12 years, with the system supporting two full charge-discharge cycles daily.

“This project marks a key milestone for Bondada Group in the energy storage segment and reflects our strong commitment to advancing India’s clean energy ecosystem,” said Dr. Raghavendra Rao Bondada, Chairman and Managing Director of Bondada Group.

The initiative is aligned with India’s National Framework for Energy Storage Systems (NFESS) 2023 and Tamil Nadu’s goal to achieve 50% renewable energy share by 2030. The BESS is expected to be fully integrated with the state grid by 2027, contributing to India’s national target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity.

With a robust track record in the renewable energy sector, Bondada Group has commissioned over 800 MW of solar capacity and is currently executing 2.3 GW of solar and renewable EPC projects across India. This 400 MWh BESS venture stands as its largest energy storage project to date, building on the success of its earlier 100 MWh BESS project awarded by Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGGENCO).
