DS Group Achieves Water Positive Certification from GRIHA, Setting New Benchmark in Corporate Sustainability

Registers Water Positivity Index of 1.80; Creates 66 Lakh KL Water Storage Potential Across 30 Locations in India

The Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group), FMCG and multi-business conglomerate, has been certified Water Positive by GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment) — a joint initiative of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, and TERI. With a Water Positivity Index of 1.80, the Group joins a select group of Indian corporates achieving such a high score, reflecting its commitment to sustainable water stewardship.

The certification follows a rigorous two-and-a-half-year assessment across 30 business units nationwide, spanning divisions such as Mouth Fresheners, Food and Beverages, Hospitality, and Agriculture. The Group’s sustainability initiatives have created a storage potential of 66 lakh kilolitres, marking a major milestone in its mission to balance growth with ecological responsibility.

Integrated Approach to Water Stewardship

DS Group’s water-positive achievement stems from a comprehensive sustainability strategy that integrates community-focused CSR programs with in-house operational efficiency. The Group’s interventions include rainwater harvesting, wastewater reuse, recharge wells, water-efficient fixtures, and ecological restoration, all aimed at reducing freshwater dependency and improving water security in surrounding communities.

Commenting on the certification, Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman, DS Group, said: “The world is rapidly moving toward sustainability, with global water demand projected to outstrip supply by 40% by 2030. Recognizing this, we’ve taken decisive steps to manage water responsibly across our operations and communities. Our efforts align with the global dialogue ahead of COP30, where water security and climate resilience will take centre stage. By embedding water-positive practices, we aim to contribute meaningfully to India’s sustainability agenda.”

He added,

“We view sustainability not as a project but as a permanent responsibility. Guided by our philosophy of ‘Create What is Worth Creating’, DS Group will continue to restore, replenish, and build resilience for future generations.”

Industry Recognition from GRIHA and TERI

Sanjay Seth, Vice President & CEO, GRIHA Council, and Senior Director, TERI, commended the DS Group for its leadership, stating: “By achieving Water Positive certification under GRIHA’s Decarbonizing Habitat Programme, DS Group has set a benchmark for responsible resource management. The certification underscores that sustainability, productivity, and profitability can coexist. Corporate environmental leadership is essential to advancing sustainable development and balancing economic growth with ecological preservation.”

Collective Commitment to a Water-Secure Future

The DS Group’s water stewardship efforts are powered by collaboration across its ecosystem — employees driving conservation projects, suppliers embracing water-efficient practices, and consumers encouraged toward responsible usage. These collective actions reinforce the Group’s goal of long-term environmental balance and community resilience.

This Water Positive Certification adds to DS Group’s growing sustainability portfolio, which includes initiatives in water conservation, livelihood enhancement, agriculture, energy efficiency, and community development. The Group’s headquarters have also received LEED Platinum and LEED Zero Carbon certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
