Project strengthens Oman’s photovoltaic manufacturing capacity and reinforces Ecoprogetti’s leadership across the GCC solar value chain
Italian photovoltaic technology specialist Ecoprogetti has successfully completed the installation and ramp-up of a fully automated 400 MW photovoltaic module production line in Salalah, southern Oman, marking a major milestone in the country’s fast-expanding renewable energy sector.
The new facility, delivered to American Advanced Clean Energy (AACE), significantly expands Oman’s solar manufacturing footprint and reinforces Ecoprogetti’s long-term presence in the Middle East. With this latest project, the company consolidates its position as a key technology supplier to Oman’s photovoltaic industry at a time when solar power is gaining rapid momentum across the Gulf.
Oman is emerging as one of the most promising solar markets in the region, supported by some of the world’s highest solar irradiance levels of 5–7 kWh/m²/day and a national peak power demand of around 7,500 MW. The country’s renewable energy share has climbed sharply, reaching 21% of the national power mix in 2025, up from 9% a year earlier—highlighting the pace of its energy transition.
Expanding PV Manufacturing from North to South
Following the successful deployment of the Sheida Solar production line in Sohar, northern Oman, the Salalah plant extends photovoltaic manufacturing capacity to the southern region near the Yemeni border. With both facilities now fully operational, Ecoprogetti commands the majority share of Oman’s PV module manufacturing market, underscoring the strong trust placed in Italian engineering and European manufacturing solutions.
The 400 MW production line, entirely designed and built in Italy, integrates advanced technologies for assembling TOPCon and HJT solar modules. The fully automated system covers every stage of production—from stringing and lay-up to lamination, framing, testing, and advanced quality inspection—delivering high productivity, consistent quality, and flexibility to adapt to evolving solar technologies.
AACE Strengthens Export-Oriented Solar Manufacturing
AACE, a U.S.-based photovoltaic module manufacturer with production facilities in Oman, benefits from the country’s Free Trade Agreement with the United States, enabling preferential access to the U.S. market. As global solar supply chains continue to face uncertainty, AACE’s manufacturing base in Oman offers a significant competitive advantage.
The company also differentiates itself through a dedicated research and development division, positioning it beyond conventional module manufacturing. Its products are UL and IEC certified and compete with leading global solar brands.
“AACE is not just a manufacturing company—it is an innovation hub,” said Mohamed Hauter, CEO of AACE. “We are driven by a team of world-class scientists dedicated to advancing photovoltaic technologies. Our strategy focuses on vertical expansion, with the goal of positioning AACE among the world’s most recognized providers of high-performance solar solutions.”
Supporting Oman’s Renewable Energy Vision
“This new installation marks another important milestone in our collaboration with our Omani partners,” said Laura Sartore, CEO of Ecoprogetti. “With two plants now operating from north to south, we are proud to support the growth of the local photovoltaic value chain and Oman’s vision for a sustainable energy future.”
She added that Ecoprogetti’s solutions are designed to help both new and existing manufacturers achieve maximum automation, lower operating costs, and precise process quality monitoring, enabling them to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving solar market.
Aligned with Oman’s national renewable energy strategy, the Salalah plant strengthens the country’s position as a regional hub for photovoltaic module manufacturing and exports, reducing reliance on imports and enhancing local industrial expertise.
Regional Leadership Across the GCC
Ecoprogetti currently holds over 50% of the GCC market share for photovoltaic module manufacturing lines and has installed the largest number of PV production systems across the region. Its footprint spans the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah), Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.
With a regional service center and spare-parts warehouse in Sharjah, UAE, Ecoprogetti provides training, technical support, and rapid maintenance services—supporting the continued expansion of solar manufacturing across the Gulf and reinforcing the region’s clean energy ambitions.
