GWEC and RE+ Events Partner to Host APAC Wind Energy Summit 2026 in Hanoi

Strategic collaboration aims to accelerate wind power deployment across Asia-Pacific as Vietnam emerges as a regional clean energy hub

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and RE+ Events enters into a strategic partnership to host the next Asia-Pacific (APAC) Wind Energy Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam , marking a significant step toward accelerating wind power deployment across the region.

The collaboration brings together GWEC, the leading global voice of the wind industry, with RE+ Events, a major international organiser of clean energy exhibitions and industry platforms.

Together, the partners aim to strengthen the APAC Summit’s position as a flagship, industry-driven event while expanding GWEC summits to new geographies worldwide.

Under the partnership, GWEC and RE+ Events will leverage their combined global networks to deepen collaboration among industry leaders, governments, regulators and supply-chain stakeholders.

The focus will be on addressing policy, infrastructure and market barriers that continue to slow the pace of the energy transition, particularly in emerging wind markets.

The first major outcome of the alliance will be APAC Summit 2026, to be held in Hanoi, which will centre on accelerating wind energy deployment across the Asia-Pacific region. The event is expected to convene policymakers, developers, investors and institutions at a critical moment for regional energy planning.

Looking ahead, the partnership is set to expand beyond annual summits. Future initiatives will include educational programmes to support new wind markets, closer engagement with media and policymakers in emerging regions, and enhanced business development opportunities for GWEC members.

Ben Backwell, CEO of the Global Wind Energy Council, said the partnership will help ensure wind energy remains central to the global energy transition. He highlighted Vietnam’s growing ambitions in the sector and its willingness to work closely with industry to translate plans into action, noting that the APAC Summit in Hanoi will be a key milestone in that journey.

Stephen Miner, President and CEO of RE+ Events, said the collaboration aligns with RE+ Events’ mission to take clean energy conversations to regions where they can have the greatest impact. He described the Hanoi summit as a major step toward connecting global stakeholders, sharing expertise and supporting sustainable energy development in fast-growing markets.

The timing of the partnership reflects the region’s rapid growth potential. The Asia-Pacific is expected to account for around 61 percent of new global wind capacity by 2030.

Onshore wind capacity in the region could double to more than 1,080 GW by the end of the decade, alongside an estimated 122 GW of offshore wind potential.

Vietnam is emerging as a focal point of this growth. Under its updated Power Development Plan VIII, the country has set a target of installing 6–17 GW of offshore wind by 2035 and more than 100 GW by 2050. Preparations for the country’s first 6 GW of offshore wind projects are expected to advance in 2026.

As part of the broader collaboration, GWEC will also contribute its expertise to RE+ 26 in Las Vegas, scheduled for November 16–19, 2026, ensuring wind energy maintains a strong presence at one of the world’s largest clean energy events.
