APAC Wind Energy Summit Sets Sights on Tripling Renewables

GWEC Summit Welcomes Industry Leaders Corio Generation and Equinor as Event Ambassadors

The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) has unveiled the theme for the upcoming APAC Wind Energy Summit 2024: “Action in APAC: Leading the Global Race to 3x Renewables.” The announcement coincides with the selection of industry giants Corio Generation and Equinor as official Event Ambassadors for the conference.

The summit, focused on driving tangible progress, will feature an agenda shaped by Corio and Equinor, ensuring laser-sharp discussions that unlock and accelerate wind energy development in the Asia-Pacific region.

“This year’s APAC Wind Energy Summit prioritizes action and leadership,” said GWEC Chief Operating Officer Stewart Mullin. “We’re honored to have Corio Generation and Equinor on board as Event Ambassadors, their expertise will ensure both themes are central to the event.”

“Both companies are committed to spearheading the energy transition and solidifying APAC’s role at the forefront,” Mullin added. “GWEC will collaborate with them to leverage their industry knowledge and curate a impactful program that fuels wind power deployment across Asia Pacific.”

South Korea Takes Center Stage

Woojin Choi, Head of South Korea for Corio Generation, highlighted the significance of hosting the summit in South Korea as offshore wind emerges as a critical decarbonization strategy for the nation.

“This event is a significant milestone for the Korean offshore wind industry,” said Choi. “Collaboration is key to success, and this summit brings together diverse stakeholders to learn and discuss industry challenges. We’re proud to be part of uniting the APAC offshore wind industry.”

Ingunn Svegården, President of Equinor Renewables APAC, emphasized the region’s vast potential for wind energy development.

“With sizable electricity markets, ambitious decarbonization goals, extensive coastlines, and robust supply chains, APAC is incredibly promising for our industry,” said Svegården. “Equinor is pursuing opportunities across several markets to develop this emerging sector alongside local partners.”

APAC: A Tripling Powerhouse

GWEC’s Global Wind Report 2024 revealed that APAC holds the world’s largest wind market share (71%), experiencing a 15% year-on-year growth from 2022. The summit theme builds on this momentum, urging action to translate positive outlooks into reality.

With over 120 countries pledging to triple renewable capacity by 2030 at COP28, the time for concrete action is now. The APAC Wind Energy Summit serves as a crucial platform to realize the 3x target, ensuring APAC leads the way in wind energy deployment.

The summit will convene industry leaders, policymakers, and institutions to address challenges specific to wind power development in the region, particularly those related to supply chain constraints and market design.

Industry Leadership Takes Hold

GWEC welcomes Corio Generation and Equinor, two wind industry titans, as official Event Ambassadors for the summit. This role is reserved for industry leaders with a distinguished reputation and a history of collaborating with APAC governments.

The esteemed Event Ambassadors will play a pivotal role in shaping the summit’s program and advocating for changes that align with the region’s unique political landscape.

Corio Generation, a global specialist in offshore wind, boasts one of the world’s largest offshore wind project pipelines, exceeding 30 GW under development across continents. Their portfolio spans established and emerging markets, encompassing both floating and fixed-foundation technologies.

Equinor, a world-leading offshore operator and international trailblazer in renewables and low-carbon solutions, is actively pursuing business opportunities in offshore wind development across South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and Australia.
