Govt drives a paradigm shift towards electric vehicles through FAME II: Amitabh Kant

Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog appreciating the cabinet’s approval of FAME II said it’s a great move, the phase II of FAME, aims to bring electric vehicles cost of ownership at par with internal combustion vehicles and accelerate demand for EVs.

After several extension and ambiguity, the cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal for implementation of scheme titled ‘Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India Phase II (FAME II)’ for promotion of Electric Mobility in the country.

The scheme with total outlay of Rs 10000 Crores over the period of three years will be implemented with effect from 1st April 2019 With an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore FAME-II will support 10 lakh two-wheelers, 5 lakh three-wheeler, 55,000 four wheeler and 7000 buses.

Kant further tweeted “It’s Mobility for the masses with a huge emphasis on public transportation. Buses procured by State Transport Undertakings to be supported on an Operating expenditure model.”
