Tesla Model S burst into flames in Hong Kong parking lot: Report

Tesla’s electric car Model S caught fire in a parking lot in a Hong Kong shopping mall reports Apple Daily newspaper. According to the report no one was injured in the blaze.

Tesla’s electric car which is said to be Model S 85 KWH dual power version burst into flames 30 minutes after being parked in the city’s San Po Kong district on Sunday notes Reuters citing the newspaper .

Three explosions in the parked Model S was seen on CCTV footage and it took 45 minutes for Firemen to douse the fire.

As of now there is no word on what might have caused the blaze. Authorities are investigating the cause.

This incident comes three weeks after Tesla said it had sent a team to investigate a video on Chinese social media that showed a parked Tesla Model S car exploding in the commercial hub of Shanghai.

Earlier Tesla in an official statement said that its EVs are about 10 times less likely to experience a fire than petrol-powered cars.

According to Reuters there have been at least 14 instances of Tesla cars catching fire since 2013, most of them after a crash.
