Solar News Wrap: GEDA Tender, 30 GW renewable park, Mizoram 2MW solar project and more

This Week’s top solar news includes GEDA Tender, 30 GW renewable park, Mizoram 2MW solar project and more:

  1. Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) has floated tender inviting bids to to design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission solar PV systems at various households in Goa. The last date of issuance of the tender document is December 11 and the tender will be opened on December 19.
  2. A shortage of solar glass which is already crimping China’s solar panel output is expected to persist through the first half of 2021, with large format glass in short supply for longer, panel makers and analysts say. Driven by growing preference for bifacial modules – which produce power from both sides of the panel – and larger panels, demand is outpacing production capacity addition, they say. An installation rush in the last quarter of the year has worsened the shortfall.
  3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Gujarat on December 15 to lay the foundation stones of two projects in Kutch district- a mega hybrid renewable energy park and a desalination plant. The hybrid renewable energy park, having both solar panels as well as windmills, will be the “world’s biggest” with power generation capacity of 30,000 megawatts.
  4. Mizoram created its own space on India’s solar power map commissioning a two megawatt capacity solar power plant. The state’s first solar power plant has been built at the cost of Rs 14 crore, at Tlungvel in Aizawl district.
  5. Government has issued guidelines for implementation of feeder-level solarisation under the PM-KU-SUM scheme after consultation with state governments.
  6. CK Birla Group firm Orient Cement has announced that it would acquire 26 per cent stake in AMP Solar Systems for Rs 4.5 crore.
  7. The new terminal building of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala will run on solar power. The building is is expected to be operational in the next three months. Under the green development initiative the airport authority of India is installing solar power plant of 2 MW to help meet the energy requirement of the terminal building.
  8. Prescinto Technologies – a Gujarat based startup focused on solar monitoring and analytics, has raised seed funding from startup incubator and accelerator Venture Catalysts.
  9. Blueleaf Energy forays into the domestic renewable energy market acquiring a majority stake in Hyderabad-based company -Vibrant Energy. Blueleaf Energy, however, didn’t provide any details about the acquisition cost or the stake it has acquired.
  10. Researchers of Jamia Millia Islamia’s Department of Mechanical Engineering have developed a solar-powered disinfection system to prevent the spread of COVID-19 or similar diseases. This disinfectant can be self-generated using solar energy and tap water.
