In a bid to achieve sustainable growth and to increase the energy efficiency of the logistics sector, Bengaluru-based tech-logistics Company, LetsTransport has entered into an agreement with Etrio to add electric vehicles to its fleet.
Under this agreement, LetsTransport will deploy Touro, a three-wheeler EV, in its last-mile operations across Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, and Pune, in a phased manner over the next 6 months.
These vehicles will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by replacing regular fossil fuel three-wheelers, said the company in a statement.
LetsTransport will deploy these vehicles for leading e-commerce customers, as well as in food, fruits and vegetables and FMCG sectors.
It is worth noting that the company has not revealed how it plans to charge these EVs, as using fossil fuel or the conventional source of power will again cause the environmental hazard and the whole purpose of inducting EVs into its fleet will be wasted.
The three-wheeler electric vehicle has been the front-runner in India’s electric mobility vision by contributing over 70% of overall EV sales.
While a majority of this has been e-auto rickshaws for people movement, there is an indisputable move by last-mile logistics players to reduce the carbon footprint of intra-city logistics.
LetsTransport already has EVs deployed, and the new fleet from Etrio will further strengthen its commitment to sustainable growth.
The company in a statement said that Etrio Touro vehicles will be used to move medium and large-sized shipments and present massive operating cost advantages.
They can carry 500 kgs for a distance of 80-90 km, operating on a typical battery pack.
The operating cost per vehicle is less than INR 1, which is four times lesser than that of diesel vehicles at INR 3-4 (at an average mileage of 22 km per liter of diesel).
Commenting on this association, Pushkar Singh, CEO & Co-Founder, LetsTransport says, “We at LetsTransport have been working on EV pilots across India with clients like BigBasket, Delhivery for over a year now, and we firmly believe that EV is going to be the future of urban freight movement, especially in the last mile space. We are working on enabling wider adoption of EVs in the last mile space, and the Touro by Etrio is a perfect fit for our sustainability goals.”
