Country Climate and Development Report highlights Brazil’s potential to become a global clean energy power and save the Amazon with a development plan that grows more food on less land and better protects the forests.
Brazil is in a strong position to improve its citizens’ lives while also addressing climate change, according to a new report from the World Bank.
The report, entitled the Country Climate and Development Report for Brazil, outlines how Brazil can grow its economy and fight climate change with relatively modest investments in agriculture, deforestation, the energy sector, and cities and transport systems.
The report states that Brazil can become a global clean energy power and save the Amazon with a development plan that grows more food on less land and better protects the forests.
According to the report, Brazil can achieve its climate goals by net investments of 0.5% of its annual GDP each year until 2050.
Almost half of Brazil’s energy supply, including over 80% of its electricity, already comes from renewables.
The report highlights the need to fulfil the pledge of zero illegal deforestation by 2028, promote climate-smart agriculture, improve energy efficiency, and create the enabling environment for green and resilient cities.
