Institutions and Organizations Organize Activities to Raise Awareness About Environmental Issues and Encourage Pro-Planet Lifestyles
Mass mobilization events are being organized across the country in the run-up to World Environment Day (June 5) under the banner of MISSION LiFE (LIFE STYLE FOR ENVIRONMENT).
Several institutions and organizations have come together to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable living practices.
The National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) conducted an awareness programme on organic compost for 110 students in Mysore. They were encouraged to adopt a Pro Planet lifestyle by dumping dry leaves into a compost pit instead of burning them. RMNH, Bhubaneswar organized a campus cleaning drive with 50 staff participants under the banner of Meri LiFE: Lifestyle For Environment.
RGRMNH, Sawai Madhopur organized a MissionLiFE orientation programme for 214 government teachers, students and visitors in Bharatpur Mandal, Rajasthan. They also conducted a nature photography event for college and school students.
The Zoological Survey of India organized an awareness rally at Dehradun, Uttarakhand on “Save Water” to mobilise and create awareness among the local people. Dr. Gaurav Sharma, Scientist in Charge of ZSI, Dehradun gave a green talk on the Conservation of Water, emphasizing the need for rainwater harvesting methods to conserve water.
The National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) and the Forest Department, Mara Autonomous District Council, Mizoram, organized a nature walk along Palak Lake to promote biodiversity and wetland conservation. About 60 local tribes participated in this event, which provided different learning experiences on various topics such as the reduction of single-use plastic, the use of eco-alternative materials, wildlife conservation, the preservation of streams and springs, and responsible tourism. Participants took a green pledge against littering and the reduction of plastic pollution.
The National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE) conducted an awareness programme under mission LiFE and promotion of Life Activities among Youth. Researchers and scientists participated in the event and took the LiFE pledge to adopt environmentally friendly habits. During the program, participants shared their thoughts on different themes of LiFE and highlighted the need to say no to single-use plastic and reduce waste, especially for the eco-fragile Himalayan environment.
