Government Expands Crackdown on Electric Vehicle Companies Violating Subsidy Norms

Notices were Sent to Four More EV Companies for Non-Compliance with Localisation Criteria, and Recovery Amounts Revealed

The Indian government’s crackdown on electric vehicle (EV) companies found violating subsidy norms has intensified with four additional companies now under scrutiny.

Notices have been sent to Greaves Cotton, Benling, Amo Mobility, and Revolt, accusing them of non-compliance with localisation criteria.

This development comes after Hero Electric and Okinawa received similar notices earlier.

Greaves Cotton, the parent company of Ampere, which specializes in electric scooters and operates outlets nationwide, faces a recovery amount of Rs 124 crore. Benling, Revolt, and Amo Mobility are also being pursued for recovery amounts of Rs 48 crore, Rs 44 crore, and Rs 80 lakh, respectively.

Furthermore, these companies are being questioned about potential deregistration from the FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) scheme.

Both companies have yet to reimburse the government, prompting officials to consider additional measures against them.
