TPREL’s Plans Include India’s First Group Captive Solar Plant and a 510-MW Hybrid Project
Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) is reportedly gearing up to expand its workforce significantly by hiring 2,500 individuals in various roles during the fiscal year 2024. This move aligns with the company’s plans for rapid expansion and the initiation of new projects.
One of TPREL’s noteworthy projects for this year includes the establishment of India’s first group captive solar plant for a residential society in Mumbai. This development underscores the company’s commitment to renewable energy solutions. Additionally, TPREL recently announced a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL) for a 510-MW hybrid project.
TPREL has also made significant strides in collaborating with the Tamil Nadu Government. Last July, they signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to invest around Rs 3,000 crore in setting up a greenfield 4 GW solar cell and 4 GW solar module manufacturing plant in the Tirunelveli district. This venture not only showcases their dedication to clean energy but also demonstrates their commitment to job creation in the region.
Money Control reports that inn terms of job profiles, TPREL aims to recruit professionals with expertise in various areas, including solar cell and solar module manufacturing, solar and wind project management, operations and maintenance, supply chain management, engineering and technology, as well as business development. These roles will be distributed across different business segments, such as Utility Scale, Group Captive, Rooftop Solar, and EV Charging divisions.
Recognizing the scarcity of talent in the solar manufacturing sector, especially in niche areas like Cell Manufacturing and Technology, TPREL is actively seeking individuals with transferable skills from adjacent industries such as automobiles, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. Anupama Ratta, the Head of HR at Tata Power Renewable Energy speaking to the publication, emphasized the company’s efforts to attract talent and build a capable workforce.
To address the challenge of talent retention, TPREL has introduced an “earn while you learn program” that offers a Bachelor in Vocational Education to students in 10th/12th standard/ITI, with a specific focus on engaging local communities for better retention.
Moreover, TPREL has undertaken a recruitment drive for women operators in collaboration with the Tirunelveli district administration. This initiative attracted over 5,000 female candidates from various educational backgrounds, including BSc, BTech, Diploma, ITI, and 12th Std. Around 1,000 women were selected for operator-level training, which will involve a two-week program in solar manufacturing. Based on their performance during training, the candidates will be engaged at the solar cell and solar module manufacturing facility.
TPREL’s ambitious hiring plans and emphasis on skill development highlight the company’s commitment to driving sustainable growth and renewable energy adoption. By expanding its workforce and investing in talent, TPREL is well-positioned to further its renewable energy projects and contribute to India’s clean energy goals.
