GE Vernova’s 2.7-132 wind turbines to power Amplus Solar’s inaugural 108 MW wind power project, contributing to India’s renewable energy goals.
GE Vernova, a leading provider of clean energy solutions, has been selected by Amplus Solar, India’s prominent clean energy solutions provider, as its onshore wind turbine supplier for its inaugural wind farm project in Tamil Nadu, India.
The announcement was made earlier today, highlighting GE Vernova’s pivotal role in supplying and commissioning 40 units of its 2.7-132 onshore wind turbines for this groundbreaking 108 MW wind power initiative.
This contract marks a significant milestone for GE, as it surpasses the milestone of securing over 3 GW of orders in India for its 2.7 MW turbine. The company now sets its sights on achieving an onshore wind installed base of over 5 GW in the country by early 2024. The collaboration with Amplus Solar not only reinforces GE’s position in the Indian market but also signifies the growing trust and confidence that customers in India have placed in the company’s cutting-edge technology and ability to deliver turbines for large-scale wind farms.
Deepak Maloo, Regional Sales Leader for GE Vernova’s Onshore Wind business in the Asia Pacific, expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing faith exhibited by Indian customers in GE’s technology and its capacity to provide turbines for substantial wind farm projects. Having already installed more than 50% of the new wind capacity in India last year, GE has established its expertise and presence in the country. Maloo extended gratitude to Amplus Solar for selecting GE Vernova as its partner for their inaugural wind farm and expressed enthusiasm for advancing the partnership as Amplus Solar continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio under the guidance of Petronas.
Amplus Solar’s CEO, Sharad Pungalia, expressed delight in finding an experienced partner in GE Vernova as they contribute to India’s net-zero targets with their first wind power project. Pungalia conveyed confidence in the collaboration, emphasizing the synergy necessary for the successful completion of this pioneering venture.
GE Vernova’s 2.7-132 wind turbine has become the preferred technology for numerous customers in India due to its exceptional performance, particularly in low wind speeds prevalent in the country. Leveraging GE’s extensive local presence in India, the project will benefit from product design primarily conducted at GE’s Technology Center in Bengaluru. Turbines will be assembled at GE’s manufacturing facility in Pune, while blades will be manufactured at LM Wind Power’s plant in Vadodara.
Amplus Solar’s wind farm is scheduled to be commissioned by August 2024, promising to deliver accessible, affordable, and reliable green energy to local businesses and consumers. This significant collaboration between GE Vernova and Amplus Solar represents a vital step toward achieving India’s sustainable energy goals and reinforces GE’s commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions globally.
