NTPC Green Energy and Maharashtra Go Green: Partnership Fuels ₹80,000 Crore Renewable Energy Push

Green Hydrogen, Pumped Hydro & RE Projects to Transform State’s Energy Landscape

Taking a giant leap towards clean energy, NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL) and the Government of Maharashtra have joined hands in a monumental Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration promises to bring significant strides in green hydrogen production, pumped hydro projects, and renewable energy advancements across the state.

The agreement paves the way for the development of green hydrogen and its derivatives (green ammonia and green methanol) with a staggering capacity of up to 1 million tons per year. This ambitious project positions Maharashtra as a frontrunner in the green hydrogen revolution.

The MoU also encompasses the development of 2 GW pumped hydro projects, providing much-needed grid stability and storage solutions for the burgeoning renewable energy sector.

Up to 5 GW of renewable energy projects, with and without storage options, are set to be established within the state, further diversifying Maharashtra’s energy mix and accelerating its transition to clean sources.

This visionary partnership is estimated to attract an investment of approximately ₹80,000 crore over the next five years, signifying a substantial commitment to Maharashtra’s green energy future.

This landmark agreement not only propels Maharashtra towards energy independence and environmental sustainability but also reinforces India’s dedication to achieving its ambitious renewable energy targets. With NGEL’s expertise and the government’s unwavering support, this collaboration promises to redefine the energy landscape of Maharashtra and pave the way for a greener future.
