Company Leads Charge in Electric Two-Wheeler Market with Convenient Swapping Network
Battery Smart, today celebrated a major milestone with the inauguration of its 1,000th swap station in Delhi. The achievement solidifies Battery Smart’s position as a pioneer in India’s electric vehicle (EV) industry, and underscores its commitment to building a robust network that makes EVs accessible and convenient for all.
The landmark station was inaugurated by Mr. Sudhendu Sinha, Advisor (Infrastructure Connectivity & Electric Mobility) at NITI Aayog, the Indian government’s premier policy think tank.
Since launching its first station in June 2020, Battery Smart has grown rapidly, establishing a presence in 30 cities across seven states. The company boasts over 35 million battery swaps completed and aims to ensure EV users are within a kilometer radius of a station, experiencing zero wait time.
“We’re incredibly proud to reach this significant milestone,” said Siddharth Sikka, Co-Founder of Battery Smart. “Our mission is to make electric mobility accessible and affordable for everyone in India, and this achievement brings us a step closer.”
Sikka acknowledged the government’s role in supporting the EV industry’s growth, but also called for addressing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) disparity on lithium-ion batteries sold separately. “Reducing this disparity,” he said, “would significantly benefit commercial EV drivers, the backbone of India’s last-mile transportation sector, by making EVs more affordable.”
Battery Smart’s battery-as-a-service model offers a unique advantage: two-minute battery swaps that save drivers time, extend range, and reduce upfront costs by up to 40%. The company’s asset-light approach leverages existing infrastructure owned by Indian small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to establish swap stations rapidly, while also empowering local entrepreneurs.
This 1,000th station marks a significant moment for India’s EV sector. Battery Smart’s success validates the growing acceptance of battery swapping as a convenient, efficient, and environmentally friendly solution for India’s massive two- and three-wheeler market.
