On Monday, January 23 , UT Administrator Banwari Lal Purohit inaugurated a 2000kWp floating solar power project worth Rs 11.70 crore at the waterworks in Sector 39, which is the largest of its kind in northern India. MP Kirron Kher was in attendance and also inaugurated a 500kWp floating solar project with fountains at Dhanas Lake. Other attendees included Adviser Dharam Pal, Director (Environment) Debendra Dalai, and Mayor Anoop Gupta.
The floating solar power plant at the waterworks in Sector 39, which has a capacity of 2000kWp, was installed at a cost of Rs 11.70 crore, which includes 10 years of operations and maintenance (O&M). Additionally, a 500kWp floating solar power plant with fountains was installed at Dhanas Lake at a total cost of Rs 3.34 crore, which also includes 10 years of O&M for both the plant and the fountains. These projects were designed and executed by CREST (Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society) and are expected to generate a minimum of 35 lakh units (kWh) of solar energy per year with 20% module efficiency.
