LONGi Green Energy Technology Co Chairman expresses optimism over European market potential and discusses cooperation with local European companies.
In a recent press conference, Zhong Baoshen, the chairman of LONGi Green Energy Technology Co, a leading Chinese photovoltaic (PV) products maker, expressed his optimism about the firm’s sales prospects in the European markets, reports Global Times. Despite signals from the region regarding reduced reliance on Chinese-made solar panels, Zhong predicted that the company’s sales would continue to rise at a relatively fast pace throughout this year.
Zhong highlighted the strong complementarity between China and the European Union (EU) in the PV industry, citing the soaring demand for Chinese solar panels in Europe. The fallout from the military conflict in Ukraine has led to rising energy prices, prompting businesses and households to install rooftop panels. This has contributed to the increased demand for Chinese PV products in the European market.
According to data released by the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA), China’s total export of PV products, including silicon wafers, cells, and modules, reached over $51.2 billion in 2022, representing an 80.3 percent year-on-year increase. The EU accounted for approximately half of China’s total PV exports, experiencing a significant growth rate of 114.9 percent year-on-year. Spain, Germany, and Poland were identified as key markets with steady demand for PV products.
Zhong expressed his optimism about the development prospects of the PV industry in Europe, emphasizing the potential for PV products to help the EU achieve energy self-reliance at a relatively low cost.
Industry analysts and insiders also echoed this positive sentiment, highlighting the rapid development of China’s domestic PV industry and the superior quality and supply capacity of Chinese PV products. Qi Haishen, the president of Beijing-based THE Solar Tech Co, expressed confidence in the global popularity of Chinese PV products due to their advanced technology and competitive pricing.
Addressing concerns over European countries’ efforts to reduce reliance on Chinese PV products, Zhong emphasized his company’s understanding and respect for the EU’s desire to develop the PV industry in Europe. He expressed a willingness to discuss cooperative models with local European companies to meet their requirements while achieving mutually beneficial trade cooperation.
In December of the previous year, the European Commission launched the EU’s solar photovoltaic industry alliance, which aimed to regain lost production to China and establish a “Made in Europe” industry. LONGi is actively engaged in communication with industrial parks in some European countries and business partners to navigate the emerging rules and regulations associated with Europe’s plan to set up local PV production factories.
Zhong concluded by stating that LONGi was preparing in advance to align with the specific rules that would eventually emerge, demonstrating the company’s commitment to cooperation and trade collaboration with Europe.
