Landmark partnership aims to responsibly manage lithium-ion batteries and promote sustainability in the electric vehicle industry
In a landmark move for the environment and the electric vehicle (EV) industry, Omega Seiki Private Limited (OSPL), a leading EV manufacturer, and Attero, a pioneer in e-waste management and lithium-ion battery recycling, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that promises a significant leap forward in sustainability.
The partnership focuses on responsibly managing the lifecycle of EV batteries, a critical challenge as the industry rapidly expands. With over 10,000 electric vehicles already deployed, OSPL will leverage Attero’s expertise to repurpose their batteries for energy storage, ensuring they don’t end up in landfills.
A Shared Commitment to Sustainability:
- OSPL: Already operates solar-powered plants and encourages sustainable practices among suppliers. The company boasts a 100% waste recycling rate, showcasing its commitment to a green future.
- Attero: Possesses a state-of-the-art facility capable of processing vast amounts of e-waste and battery waste annually. Their innovative technology recovers valuable materials like cobalt and lithium with 98% efficiency, promoting a circular economy.
Ambitious Goals, Global Impact:
OSPL and Attero aim to recycle over 100 MWh of batteries in the next 3-4 years, building on OSPL’s planned deployment of 1 GWh of batteries in the coming five years.
The partnership extends beyond India, encompassing Southeast Asia and Africa, aiming to set new standards for sustainable practices in the global EV sector.
Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman of OSPL said “Waste management is crucial for Omega Seiki’s sustainability journey. This collaboration reaffirms our commitment to environmental stewardship and setting industry benchmarks in battery waste management.”
“India needs a sustainable approach to EV battery recycling. This partnership will play a significant role in shaping battery recycling and fostering a more environmentally conscious society,” said Nitin Gupta, CEO & Co-Founder of Attero.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards a cleaner future. By combining their expertise, OSPL and Attero are paving the way for responsible EV battery management, setting a positive example for the industry and contributing to a more sustainable world.
