Perovskite Innovation’s PSCs Aim to Revolutionize Renewable Energy Landscape
Perovskite Innovation Pvt Ltd, a pioneering Indian company incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), has won the prestigious Indian Oil’s Start-Up Challenge Award for its innovative work in low-cost solar window solutions. This recognition highlights the growing potential of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) in revolutionizing renewable energy technology.
The global energy landscape is facing a dual challenge: rising demand and the environmental consequences of traditional fossil fuels. Perovskite Innovation is at the forefront of developing a sustainable solution.
Perovskite materials have unique properties that make them ideal for solar energy capture. They efficiently absorb light, even in low-light conditions, and their semi-transparent nature allows them to be integrated into windows and facades. Additionally, PSCs are cost-effective to produce and can be customized to different colors.
“Our proposed technology aims to maximize efficiency while maintaining transparency,” said Prof. Soumitra Satapathi, co-founder of Perovskite Innovation and a faculty member in the Physics Department of IIT Roorkee. “This will culminate in a scalable prototype for widespread use.”
Prof. K.K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, emphasized the significance of this technology: “Integrating these solar cells with building structures presents a promising pathway towards achieving net-zero emissions. Perovskite Innovation’s work leverages innovation to propel us towards a sustainable future.”
Perovskite Innovation is not only focused on solar windows. They are also developing high-efficiency silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells. Through collaboration and continued research, the company is determined to play a key role in creating a greener and more sustainable energy landscape for India and the world.
