450,000 TPA Target Aims to Boost Clean Energy Production and Reduce Carbon Footprint
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced the launch of the second tranche of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme. This program aims to incentivize the production of green hydrogen, a clean-burning fuel that can be used in various sectors to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Key Details of Tranche II:
- Target: 450,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green hydrogen production capacity
- Incentive Scheme: Based on competitive bidding with the lowest quoted incentive receiving priority
- Two Categories:
- Bucket I (Technology Agnostic): Open to any green hydrogen production technology (capacity: 410,000 TPA)
- Bucket II (Biomass-Based): Dedicated to biomass-based green hydrogen production (capacity: 40,000 TPA)
- Bidding Capacity:
- Bucket I: Minimum 10,000 TPA, Maximum 90,000 TPA
- Bucket II: Minimum 500 TPA, Maximum 4,000 TPA
- Implementing Agency: Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)
Benefits of the Green Hydrogen Mission:
- Decarbonization: Reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
- Self-Reliance: Aatma Nirbhar (self-reliance) through clean energy production.
- Global Leadership: Position India as a leader in green hydrogen technology and market.
SECI will soon issue a Request for Selection (RfS) inviting bids for the Tranche II program. This initiative is a significant step forward in India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to establish the country as a global hub for clean energy production.
