Electric Two-Wheelers Surge in India: CarDekho Report

CarDekho Report Highlights Surge in E2W Sales and Growing Consumer Interest

As India’s electric mobility landscape continues to evolve, the electric two-wheeler (E2W) segment has witnessed a remarkable surge in popularity. According to a new report by CarDekho Group’s New Auto division, E2W retail sales experienced a staggering 44% year-on-year growth in August 2024, significantly outpacing the overall industry growth.

The report, which analyzed consumer trends and market dynamics between August 2023 and August 2024, revealed a significant shift in consumer interest. While Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities continue to dominate the market, smaller cities are increasingly embracing electric mobility. Traffic from Tier 3 and other smaller cities on CarDekho’s platform grew by 41% and 34%, respectively, indicating a growing demand for E2Ws across India.

“The E2W segment is at the forefront of India’s electric vehicle revolution,” said Mayank Jain, CEO of New Auto (CarDekho Group). “Our data shows growing interest beyond metro cities, signaling a nationwide shift towards electric mobility. This widespread acceptance, combined with India’s manufacturing prowess in two-wheelers, opens up exciting possibilities for Indian E2W manufacturers to lead the global market.”

The report also highlighted the strong performance of India’s leading E2W manufacturers. Five out of the top six OEMs recorded retail growth in August 2024 compared to the previous year, further underscoring the segment’s robust growth trajectory.
