Delhi High Court Issues Permanent Injunction to Protect Consumers from Online Scams and Brand Impersonation
Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd., a leading solar energy solutions provider and subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has secured a major legal victory against online trademark infringement. The Hon’ble Delhi High Court has issued a permanent injunction against fraudulent domain names impersonating the company and misleading consumers.
Court Ruling Against Fraudulent Websites
The Court ruled that websites such as tatapowersolardealership.co.in and tatapowersolars.com were unlawfully misusing Tata Power Solar’s trademark, deceiving customers with false dealership opportunities, fake promotions, and fraudulent payment requests. The judgment aims to protect consumers from financial loss and uphold the integrity of Tata Power Solar’s brand, which generates an annual revenue of ₹1,907 crores.
Significance of the Judgment
Hon’ble Justice Amit Bansal emphasized the importance of intellectual property rights, stating that unauthorized use of Tata Power Solar’s name could cause irreparable damage to both consumers and the company’s reputation. This landmark ruling sets a strong precedent in combating online fraud and brand impersonation in the digital era.
Commitment to Brand Protection
TPREL, the parent company of Tata Power Solar, continues to take legal action to safeguard its brand identity. The company has already approached the Delhi High Court for similar protections across its other brands, reinforcing its commitment to consumer trust and brand security.
