The Greater Noida-based project will add 10 GW of solar manufacturing capacity, boost domestic production of high-efficiency TOPCon solar cells, and support India’s clean energy and self-reliance goals.
SAEL Industries Limited, through its subsidiary SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited, has announced a massive investment of approximately ₹8,200 crore to set up a state-of-the-art integrated solar manufacturing facility under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region in Uttar Pradesh. The groundbreaking initiative reinforces India’s push towards self-reliance in solar manufacturing.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath formally handed over the Letter of Comfort to Mr. Sukhbir Singh Awla, Co-Founder and Director of SAEL Industries, signaling the government’s strong backing for this landmark project. Construction of the facility is expected to begin later this year.
The upcoming solar plant in Greater Noida will comprise a 5 GW solar cell manufacturing unit and a 5 GW module assembly line. Once operational, SAEL’s total solar manufacturing capacity will surge to 8.5 GW, placing the company among the country’s leading renewable energy manufacturers.
Speaking at the announcement, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized, “Uttar Pradesh is taking bold strides in green energy. SAEL’s ₹8,000 crore solar project will play a pivotal role in realizing our renewable energy ambitions and positioning the state as a leader in India’s clean energy journey.”
Mr. Sukhbir Singh Awla remarked, “We are grateful to the Government of Uttar Pradesh for its unwavering support. This project is a significant milestone in our mission to enhance domestic solar manufacturing. It aligns with both the state’s solar policy and national goals such as Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat @2047. We are committed to strengthening the domestic supply chain and reducing dependency on imported solar components.”
The facility will manufacture high-efficiency TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) solar cells, which are globally recognized for superior performance. These will be integrated into panels using an in-house module manufacturing line.
This development is part of SAEL’s broader strategy of backward integration to support its rapidly growing solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) business. The company currently holds over 6.7 GW of solar IPP assets, including operational and pipeline projects across India. It already operates a 3.5 GW TOPCon module capacity with 3.2 GW in Rajasthan and 300 MW in Punjab.
The new project is fully compliant with the Government of India’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), further strengthening India’s position in the global solar manufacturing landscape.
