Aptiv Inaugurates New Technical Center in Chennai, Bolstering India’s Automotive Software & Safety Ecosystem

The new facility will host up to 500 engineers, focusing on advanced safety, user experience, and AI/ML-powered systems to support local automakers.

Global technology giant Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV) has officially opened a new Software, Advanced Safety & User Experience (AS&UX) Technical Center in Chennai, marking a significant step in the company’s commitment to India’s burgeoning automotive industry.

The state-of-the-art facility is set to become a hub for innovation, focusing on the development of cutting-edge technologies that will shape the future of mobility in the region.

Driving Local Innovation with Global Expertise

​The new technical center, sprawling over 34,000 square feet, is designed to accommodate up to 500 engineers by 2026. It features advanced labs and testing infrastructure dedicated to accelerating the development of AI/ML-powered solutions, including next-generation Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and in-cabin perception systems.

This investment highlights Aptiv’s strategy to combine its global technological prowess with local engineering talent to meet the specific needs of Indian automakers.

​Javed Khan, Executive Vice President and President of Aptiv’s AS&UX division, emphasized the center’s role in localizing technology for the Indian market. “This center will strengthen our ability to localize AI/ML-powered ADAS and advanced interior sensing technologies for the Indian market, reflecting our confidence in India’s engineering talent and bringing us closer to our customers,” said Khan.

Strategic Expansion and Collaboration

​The inauguration ceremony was attended by key leaders, including Mr. R. Velusamy, President of Automotive Business (Designate) at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, underscoring the collaborative spirit between Aptiv and local industry players. This new center is Aptiv’s fourth technical facility in India, reinforcing its robust engineering and manufacturing presence across the country.

​With eight manufacturing plants, four technical centers, and a tooling center, Aptiv employs over 13,000 people in India. The Chennai center will play a crucial role in developing software-defined infotainment platforms and cloud-native architectures, leveraging integrated hardware, software, and edge technologies. This strategic expansion is poised to support the rapid growth of India’s automotive sector and contribute to a safer, greener, and more connected future.
