The landmark order strengthens Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Limited’s position in advanced transmission technology as India ramps up grid expansion to support renewable energy integration and long-distance power transfer.
Transformers & Rectifiers (India) Limited (TARIL), one of the country’s leading power-equipment manufacturers, has bagged a ₹53.33 crore order from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) in a major industry breakthrough. The contract covers the repair, erection, testing and commissioning of a 397 MVA HVDC Converter Transformer, with delivery slated for the next financial year.
The achievement positions TARIL as the first Indian-origin private-sector company to enter the high-technology HVDC converter transformer segment — a space traditionally dominated by a limited number of global manufacturers. The order reinforces TARIL’s engineering prowess and expands its footprint in India’s transmission ecosystem, where precision and advanced technology are essential for grid expansion and reliability.
The development comes at a time when India is rapidly modernising its transmission infrastructure to support renewable energy integration, strengthen grid stability, and enable efficient long-distance power transfer. With HVDC technology becoming vital for large-scale renewable projects and interregional power exchange, TARIL’s entry marks a critical advancement for domestic manufacturing under the government’s Make in India mission.
Commenting on the milestone, TARIL CEO Mr. Mukul P. Srivastava said, “Securing this order from Power Grid Corporation of India is an important achievement for TARIL and a strong endorsement of our technical capabilities. Entering the global league of HVDC converter transformer segment represents a strategic step forward for us, aligning with the nation’s broader ‘Make in India’ vision to strengthen indigenous manufacturing in advanced power technologies.” He added that the opportunity supports the company’s long-term plan to expand its offerings in the HVDC space.
India’s HVDC market is witnessing strong momentum, driven by large renewable energy rollout including offshore wind projects targeting 30 GW by 2030, expansion of the Green Energy Corridor, interconnection of asynchronous grids, and growing cross-border power transmission initiatives. Increasing adoption of Voltage Source Converter (VSC) systems is also contributing to rising sector demand.
The latest PGCIL contract enhances TARIL’s positioning in a high-value, specialised segment that is set to shape the next phase of India’s power-grid evolution.
