Anant National University Partners with Canada’s University of Windsor to Boost Climate Research and Student Exchange

Five-year partnership to focus on carbon capture, resilient infrastructure, sustainable technologies and interdisciplinary climate education through joint research and graduate pathways

Anant National University’s Anant School for Climate Action (ASCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Windsor, Canada, to strengthen international collaboration in climate action, sustainability research and academic exchange.

The five-year partnership will focus on advancing joint research initiatives, student mobility programmes and structured graduate pathways, with a strong emphasis on climate change, resilient infrastructure, carbon capture and sustainable technologies. The agreement also aims to promote interdisciplinary, design-led education aligned with global sustainability priorities.

The collaboration brings together ASCA’s expertise in developing practical and scalable climate solutions with the University of Windsor’s established research ecosystem and commitment to environmental innovation. Windsor has made significant progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions while expanding its research funding in sustainability-focused domains.

Under the agreement, both institutions will jointly undertake faculty-led research projects and collaborative publications. A defined graduate progression pathway will allow students from either university to pursue advanced studies at the partner institution, strengthening global academic exposure and research capacity.

The MoU also establishes a framework for co-created curricula, short-term immersion programmes and shared research platforms designed to address pressing climate challenges at local and global levels.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior leadership from the University of Windsor, including Dr. J. J. McMurtry, President and Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Chris Busch, Associate Vice President, Global Engagement and Partnerships; and Ms. Neharika, Principal Advisor, Recruitment and Partnerships, along with senior representatives from the Anant School for Climate Action.

Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. McMurtry said the partnership combines Anant’s design-led approach with Windsor’s research strength to create academic pathways that support impactful research and respond to global climate challenges.

Dr. Rohan Dutta, Associate Professor and Director of the Anant School for Climate Action, highlighted that interdisciplinary thinking and international collaboration are essential to meaningful climate action. He noted that the partnership will enable students and faculty to engage with diverse climate contexts, deepen applied research and co-create solutions relevant across geographies.

The new agreement aligns with Anant National University’s broader vision of nurturing future-ready leaders equipped to tackle complex global challenges through design, sustainability and interdisciplinary learning. The university has established international collaborations with institutions and organisations such as the University of Pennsylvania (USA), Sciences Po (France), The Villars Institute (Switzerland), the Commonwealth Secretariat (UK), Sustain Lab Paris (UAE), Initiatives of Change, UNICEF and EarthDay.org.

With climate change increasingly driving global academic and policy collaboration, the Anant–Windsor partnership marks another step in strengthening cross-border research and education focused on sustainable development.
