OIL’s Oil Pipelines Threaten Assam Forest

Oil India Limited (OIL) is laying four oil and gas pipelines through protected forests in Assam, which could be harmful to wildlife according to environmentalists.

The pipelines will run close to Dehing Patkai National Park, home to endangered species such as the western hoolock gibbon and white-winged duck.

The company is rebuilding one pipeline and constructing three others as it seeks to expand production. The pipelines will clear over 40 hectares of forest and pass near the national park.

The work on the pipelines started in November 2022 and is expected to be completed in March 2023
