RACEnergy Achieves AIS 156 Phase 2 Certification for Swappable Batteries in India

Deep-tech battery swapping company, RACEnergy, meets the highest global standards for EV batteries mandated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

RACEnergy, a deep-tech battery swapping company, has announced that it has achieved certification for its swappable batteries under the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 156 Phase 2, one of the highest global standards for batteries.

RACEnergy is the first battery swapping company to meet the new certification requirements, which is mandated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to ensure the safety and performance standards of electric vehicles (EVs) on Indian roads.

The certification covers the designing, construction, and testing of battery packs, and verifies that RACEnergy’s swappable battery technology meets the highest safety standards.

RACEnergy’s Co-Founder, Arun Sreyas, said that the achievement is a significant milestone in the company’s journey to revolutionize the electric mobility sector in India. He added that RACEnergy remains dedicated to implementing the highest safety standards in all its products and services, ensuring the safety of EVs on Indian roads, which is crucial for the continued growth of the EV market. The battery packs are also mandatorily IP67 compliant, making it resistant to water and dust ingression, making it safer than before.

The new certification involves highly skilled engineering in the construction of the battery, including research in heat transfer, material science, electrical circuit design, and expertise in understanding cell chemistry behaviour.

The battery is now protected internally from catching fire, even if a cell or group of cells rapidly reach temperatures over 300°C.
