JICA Facilitates Green Energy Collaboration in India

Mitsubishi Power and Hygenco to Develop Green Hydrogen/Ammonia-Fired Power Plants

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) today announced a strategic partnership between Mitsubishi Power and Hygenco Green Energies to develop and deploy green hydrogen and ammonia-fired gas turbine combined cycle (GTCC) power plants. The collaboration, supported by JICA India Office, aims to provide these integrated solutions both domestically and globally.

This initiative aligns with India’s ambitious National Green Hydrogen Mission, with Hygenco supplying green fuel for Mitsubishi Power’s GTCC technology. Hygenco plans to build, own, and operate large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production facilities. Mitsubishi Power, on the other hand, is actively developing technologies to convert existing GTCC plants from natural gas to hydrogen or ammonia, having already undertaken several projects worldwide.

JICA’s involvement in this collaboration stems from its investment in Hygenco through the NEEV II Fund, managed by SBI Ventures Limited.

Speaking on the occasion, JICA India Chief Representative Saito Mitsunori emphasized the agency’s commitment to green hydrogen technologies and the importance of international cooperation for addressing climate change. Amit Bansal, CEO of Hygenco Green Energies, highlighted the synergy between the two companies and their shared vision of a sustainable energy future. Prem Prabhakar, MD&CEO of SBI Ventures Limited, expressed confidence in the potential of green hydrogen and ammonia for India’s energy security and transition.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable energy future for India and the world.
